Digital Storytelling

Here are some examples of digital storytelling tied to Science.

Island Movies- These movies were part of a contest for students in Hawaii. Many are tied to science standards. You will need to right click on the movie title and choose "Save Target As" in order to view them. There is an environmental theme in many of the movies.

Should You Be Afraid of Snakes?- An 8 year old shares his knowledge.

  • Have students create movies that dispel myths about animals. Or students can create movies that dispel myths about any science topic, like the moon being made of cheese, or thunder and lightning being created by mythical gods.

Granny Smith- A third grader brings to life the world of an apple, with a thick southern accent.

  • Try this approach as a final project for many topics, life bringing to life the life cycle of a butterfly or frog. Take a trip through the various systems of the body. Fly to a planet and take a tour. Dig through the layers of the earth. To be successful, students will need a thorough understanding of the material, and will be applying it in a creative manner.

Sanford Middle School Student Projects- Click on the teacher's name to get to the student projects. These were tied to a partnership with the zoo. You will need to Right Click and choose Save Target As to download and view the movies. Also, you may not be able to view them on a Mac because they are in Windows Media Player format.
